Ensuring Help is Available

Sherobee Baptist and West Feliciana Hospital Join Forces

April 1, 2025 - Feliciana Explorer

Sherobee Missionary Baptist Church, 10064 Jones Vaughn Creek Road in St. Francisville, recently installed an Automated External Defibrillator in collaboration with West Feliciana Hospital’s EMS Community AED Program. AEDs are portable devices that can analyze the heart's rhythm and deliver an electric shock if necessary to help someone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest. The installation of an AED in a church provides an additional layer of safety and preparedness for the congregation, ensuring that help is available in case of an emergency.

The decision to install an AED reflects the church’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its members and surrounding community. By downloading the 911 PulsePoint Respond App, the community can locate all AEDs across the parish in an emergency. The AED is installed at the church in a clearly marked, easily accessible location, near the outdoor entrance where it can be quickly retrieved in an emergency.

In addition to the installation, church staff and volunteers are being trained in how to use the AED and perform CPR. Many AED models come with simple, step-by-step instructions and voice prompts that guide the user through the process, making it easier for someone with minimal medical training to assist in a crisis. Training ensures that the AED is used effectively and confidently if ever needed.

The presence of an AED at the church not only enhances safety but can also bring peace of mind to churchgoers and their families, knowing that the church is prepared for emergencies. It's a thoughtful and life-affirming investment that underscores the church’s care for both the spiritual and physical health of its community.
